35 Weeks

Today I am 35 weeks, and 5 days pregnant.  For 2 weeks now, I have been on bedrest for Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH).  Thank goodness we got the baby’s room painted and finished when we did! I would be going crazy if I still had a lot of stuff that needed to be done in preparation for the baby!

Lance has been so great the past couple of weeks.  His boss is being SO understanding and he was able to switch his work hours to the evening so that he is able to stay home during the day and watch the kids that I keep for me.  We wouldn’t be able to afford this much time off.  I haven’t had to clean the house, cook a meal, do laundry, or go grocery shopping at all.  He has done it all! I have to admit, it’s been a little hard to give up the reins on some of the domestic stuff, but have definitely enjoyed the much-needed rest that I’m getting!

Another blessing has been that our church has started bring us meals 3 times a week.  That is such a huge help! It definitely makes things a little easier on Lance and I am really enjoying all the yummy food! It just makes this bedrest thing so much more bearable with everyone being so helpful and understanding.

I go back to the doctor on Thursday for lab work and an ultrasound.  They are monitoring me and the baby very closely to try and get us to as near to my due date as possible.  I’m secretly hoping to be induced a little early.  I’m getting really tired of being pregnant, honestly.  But, of course, I want what’s best for the baby above any discomfort that I have!

33 Weeks

Lance and I had a wonderful week off for our anniversary.  We started off the week by painting the baby’s room.

It was a lot of work but felt so good to get it over with!

I have gotten almost everything put together and ready in the room and am just waiting on two more picture frames to come in before I can hang the wall decor and the room will be complete.  I am planning on posting pictures once everything is done.  It looks so good in there! Sometimes Lance and I just sort of gravitate to that room because we think it’s the best room in our house now!

The rest of our anniversary week was spent spending time together.  We went shopping, went out to eat a lot, played games together, watched movies, stayed up late talking, and did a 1000 piece puzzle together.

I didn’t take many pictures because we spent a lot of time in our pajamas! Ha! But, seriously, it was the best stay-cation I’ve ever had.  It was soooo nice to just “stock up” on a lot of quality time that I know we will be craving once the baby is here and our lives get so much busier.

At the end of our anniversary week we went to Illinois for a baby shower at my home church.  My mom, her friend Peggy, and my brother’s wives put it all together for me.  Everything was decorated so cute!

All of my nieces were there (and two nephews), but I didn’t get pictures of them all.  I did get a picture of Autumn and Corrah though!

We received so many wonderful presents and were so thankful to everyone that came! We felt so blessed!

I haven’t really had many new pregnancy symptoms except recently I’ve developed a lot of pelvic pressure.  I’m not sure, but I think the baby is head down and just putting a lot of weight on my pelvis.  Everything I read about this week says the baby should be about 4 pounds by now and that is just crazy to me!  Her movements are getting less jerky and more like her whole body rolling around.  I think she’s just running out of room in there!

Last weekend we installed the car seat and next weekend we’re gonna figure out where the entrance is that we’re supposed to go to at the hospital (I’m delivering at a big hospital).  I’ve started packing the hospital bags and picked out a going-home-outfit.  All her bedding and clothes are washed and ready to go.  I can’t believe I only have 7 weeks left! We are so ready to meet our daughter!

4 Years and Counting!

Yesterday was Lance and I’s 4 year anniversary!  There was a dinner at his work for honoring a recent retiree and I got dressed and ready to go to that with him. Then we took a picture together!

On the way there, when we came to a stoplight that we were supposed to turn right at, Lance got in the left turning lane that would head downtown.  He totally surprised me with a nice dinner date for our anniversary.  I wasn’t expecting it at all!  He took me to Maggiano’s which is where we went the night we got engaged.  It was so fun!

The atomsphere is so dark and romantic there and they had live piano music and, of course, good food!  We were definitely less nervous going there this time than we were the night we got engaged! Ha! Four years of living together will do that to ya!

We had a nice, relaxing time together with a lot of good conversation about our future.  It was the perfect surprise!

I feel so lucky to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!

28 weeks

Today I am 28 weeks pregnant! I feel so blessed and thankful to be in the third trimester.  As each week ticks by I’m getting more and more ready to meet our baby girl.

I feel like we have so much to do before she comes.  We haven’t painted her room or anything.  We are planning to do that at the beginning of the week that we are taking off for our anniversary at the end of this month.  At the end of that week, my home church in Illinois is giving me a baby shower, so maybe after that it will feel like we are physically prepared for the baby.

For a few weeks now, I’ve been really losing a lot of sleep at night.  I have a lot of hip and back pain which makes no position a comfortable one.  Combine that with frequent bathroom breaks during the night, I’ve been averaging about 2-5 hours of sleep a night.  Not enough. At all.

Also, for the past week or so, I’ve started to feel nauseous during the daytime like I did my first trimester.  Additionally, I’m low on energy again (also similar to the first trimester).  I wish I wouldn’t have taken for granted all the energy and good feelings I had during my second trimester!  Ha!

Even though it feels good to complain a little bit about how cruddy I’ve been feeling, I’m so thankful to be pregnant and wouldn’t trade it for anything.  I know some women have much, much harder pregnancies than I’ve had and I’m thankful for not feeling worse than I have.  I know I definitely couldn’t do it without Lance.  He’s been so great helping me around the house, understanding when I don’t feel like cooking, and going to bed earlier than normal because I’m so tired.  I am so thankful to have him for a husband.

25 Weeks!

Whew! It has been a busy couple of weeks! I kept trying to get time to write a 24 week blog post and just never got around to it.  Oh well!

Last Friday Lance put together our crib and dresser/changing table.

It was a little surreal for the both of us, thinking about how we were going to have a baby to put in it in just 3.5 more months!

The day after he put the crib together we attended a baby expo at the hospital I’ll be delivering at.   Apparently they have one every year for expecting and new moms.   It was so much fun!  They had tons of booths giving away free samples and drawings for prizes.  We were able to get so many things to try like different formulas, diaper rash creams, breast milk storage containers, cooler bags, nipples, and a lot of coupons too.  Lance entered a contest for the fastest diapering dad and he won! I wish I would’ve gotten a picture; it was so funny seeing all those guys up there splashing baby powder on dolls and putting on diapers upside down.  Not Lance though, he did a great job! We got a $25 gift card to Krispy Kreme as his prize for winning!

Last Tuesday we went to my ultrasound and doctor’s appointment.  I was a little nervous because at the last ultrasound they said the baby’s head was measuring a little small.  I was relieved at this appointment to find out everything is okay and the baby looks perfectly healthy! The ultrasound tech did several minutes of 3d imaging too and we got a few good pictures from that; although they are hard to see here because I took a picture of the prints with my camera.  The above picture is of her profile and her foot sticking up.

We also got a DVD of our session and everything is much clearer on it.

Then we left on Friday to go to IL for my birthday.  My birthday isn’t for another week or so, but my brother’s birthday was Monday so we had a joint birthday/family dinner on Friday night.  It’s always good to see all my nieces and nephews; I don’t get to see them enough! Then on Saturday my mom and I went shopping.  We went to a consignment store where I found a few cute baby outfits and the Boppy (and Boppy cover) that I wanted! We also went to a fabric store and I found the sweetest cloth for my mom to make my crib bedding.

That is a picture of the quilt.  There are several other coordinating fabrics that she’s going to make the dust ruffle and sheet out of.  I love it more than anything I found online and it was so much cheaper too!

Since we’ve been home I’ve been catching up on laundry, couponing and everything else that gets neglected when you go out of town.  This Friday I’m going on a date with my husband for my birthday and I’m super excited about that! We’re going out to eat and going to see the movie Water for Elephants.  I read the book a couple years ago and am curious to see the movie version.  Also, we haven’t gone out to eat together in like a month because we’ve been trying to save money for hospital bills, so it’s going to be a great birthday present just not having to cook! Haha!

Lance’s Birthday

Lance’s birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day.  This year’s birthday fell on Spring Break (he works at a college) so he had a few days off.  It was nice spending a few days together and working on a little project together (pictures of finished project coming soon!)

This year Lance wanted me to make him a traditional St. Patrick’s Day dinner of corn beef and cabbage.  So I did! It was sooooooo good! I though it would be daunting to make since I’ve never made it before, but it was actually very easy.

The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the rye bread.  It was too tangy for me.

My plate:

After we ate we had birthday cake!  I made him a Grasshopper cake (mint-vanilla cake, fudge filling, whipped cream icing) and it was really good!

We had this meal at lunchtime, and so the girls I keep were eating with us.  When I brought out the cake, Kelly (age 3) was mid-sentence, telling Lance something and when she noticed the cake she stopped talking and just said “Ooooooohhh”, and then clapped her hands.  Haha!  Then the girls helped me sing “Happy Birthday” to Lance.

It was a really good relaxing day for the both of us.

The next night we went out on a birthday date.  Normally for Lance’s birthday, we invite abunch of friends and all go to a restaurant (which is what I was planning this year).  When I told Lance about it, he said he’d really just like a date with me! Which I didn’t object, because we will not get many more of those after the baby comes!  We had a good time.

And in case you want to know what to do with all that leftover corn beef, cabbage and potatoes:

Make potato salad and corn beef sandwiches!

19 weeks!

Tomorrow I will be 19 weeks pregnant.  I didn’t make an 18 week post because it has been a crazy past week and a half.

It started with last weekend.  My brother and his family decided to come see me as kind of a last minute thing.  I was so excited because they’ve never come to Nashville to see me!  Lance and I did a lot of cleaning and stuff to prepare for them coming.

Friday night a couple hours before they arrived I started feeling really yucky.  Lance and I chalked it up to me being nervous of how the weekend was gonna go and just tried to relax and spend some time together before they got here.

By the time they showed up I was feeling like it was just a matter of when (not if) I was going to throw up.  And I have always not been able to stop throwing up once I start, so I was just praying and hoping it would hold off.  About 30 minutes after they got here I started throwing up, and didn’t stop until the next morning.

I felt pretty yucky the next day and stayed in bed a lot.  I tried to go to dinner with everyone but had to turn around once we got to the restaurant.  They left after only staying one night.  I know they understood and felt bad I was sick, but I just felt so disappointed that I had to be sick while they were here.

Sunday night Lance threw up once or twice and then Monday and Tuesday we both felt completely exhausted and worn out from being so sick.  Wednesday I started working again and Lance thought he was gonna go to work but then started throwing up again and threw up all day long.  It was almost like he caught it twice; it was weird.

So I spent Wednesday working to keep the girls I keep in the playroom so they wouldn’t get sick, taking care of Lance, and bleaching almost every surface in the house to try and kick this sickness out.  Not feeling 100% myself, and being pregnant, that completely tired me out and then I didn’t feel good the rest of the week.  But thankfully didn’t throw up anymore.

This past weekend Lance and I spent a lot of time resting, drinking a lot of water, and focusing on getting better.  I think yesterday (Monday) we finally felt completely better and Lance went back to work too.

Today I had a doctor’s appointment.  I had my first glucose test (I’ll have two) and had to drink the nasty orange stuff.  Yuck!! Then the doctor checked my baby’s heartbeat and then I had my blood drawn.  I got to schedule my gender ultrasound for two weeks from today so we’re pretty excited about that!  I can’t wait to finally know if it’s a boy or girl so I can plan the baby’s room!  Next week this pregnancy will be half way over! It’s going so fast!

16 weeks

On Wednesday I was 16 weeks pregnant.  I could know the gender by now, but my doctor wants to wait until 21 weeks to do the gender scan.  It’s really hard waiting! I thought about going to one of those ultrasound clinics to find out, but I could spend that $75 on something else than finding out the gender 5 weeks earlier.  I’m just impatient!  I just can’t wait to decide on bedding and room colors and start working on the nursery.  At 21 weeks I’ll only have 19 weeks left to get all of that done and I’m anxious to get started!

Lance and I went out for Valentine’s Day last night.  We had an Olive Garden gift card left over from Christmas and used that.  It was sooo good! Lance and I always share, which I love because I get to taste everything I want to, but not have a ton of food left over.  We got an appetizer, shared an entree (which I was too full after all the salad and breadsticks that I brought my half home…isn’t that what always happens at Olive Garden with that yummy salad?), and then both got dessert to-go.  We had a relaxed conversation and just enjoyed each other’s company!

My Saturday is going to be filled with laundry, relaxing, and hopefully putting together some coupon scenarios for this week.  I haven’t done couponing since November when I found out I was pregnant.  The first couple of weeks I was just preoccupied with the news, and then there was the holidays, and then I felt yucky for awhile.  So now, I’m ready to get some bargains! Plus, it’s just been so nice outside that running a bunch of errands seems inviting!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

After Lance left for work today he came back about an hour later with a pretty pink cupcake and a sweet little card.  It was a great surprise, not to mention, cake and icing is definitely the way to this pregnant girl’s heart!

Lance is my best friend and I could not imagine my life without him!  I look forward to 75 more Valentine’s Days with him!

Lance and I had a good date day yesterday.  We went to church in the morning and then we decided to go to a shopping mall for the afternoon.  We went to lunch at Backyard Burgers.  I have never been there and Lance usually lets me pick where to eat (since my appetite is iffy lately), so I wanted him to pick.  It was really good!  After we ate we headed to the mall and walked around.  Lance found some ties for work that were on sale.  We mostly did window shopping.  After a couple hours we took a smoothie break.

When we were ready to leave the mall I stopped and got a haircut at the salon there.  It was mostly just a trim and some layers.  I also bought a new straightening iron.  My first straightener lasted me about 8 years but broke about 6-8 months ago.  I’ve been saving money for a new one.  My hair is so curly that I have to buy a professional one for it to work.  Friday night I got off work about 6pm and then at 6:30 two girls I used to keep came over so their parents could have a date night.  I ended up working until 4am.  (22 hour work day, ugh!!).  But it was great to see the girls and I made enough money to get my straightener! I’m also really glad their parents had a much-needed date night!  I haven’t had a chance to use my new straightener yet, so I’m excited to try it out tonight!
