Polymer Clay Miniatures

Sometimes I feel like I collect hobbies.  I have this need for a creative outlet, but am always looking for something new to try rather than working on one craft.  Not saying that’s a good or bad quality about me, it is what it is.

Anyway, my newest fun thing is polymer clay miniatures.  It’s so fun to create tiny little things!

Here’s some of what I’ve made so far:

(keep in mind I don’t have a very good camera)

Hamburger and Fries

Tacos with Chips and Guacamole

Pancakes

Turkey Sandwich with Doritos

Egg with Bacon

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich with Potato Chips and Strawberries

Donuts

Some of them compared to a quarter, so you have an idea of the size

So fun!

Feature Friday

A couple weeks ago, when I was sick, I really wanted to color.  Sometimes, there is something so therapeutic about filling in shapes with color.  When Lance and I went to Walmart to get more tissues and Sprite, I also bought a coloring book.

As cute as the puppies with hearts in their mouths were, the coloring book was clearly made for toddlers.  I told Lance that night that I wished someone would make adult coloring books.  And then I thought, maybe someone already has!

So, I looked on Amazon and ended up finding this company called Dover Publications.  They have a lot of neat (and challenging) coloring books.  I ended up ordering 3 of them.

I love them! They’re exactly what I pictured when I wanted an “adult coloring book”.  They very intricate and challenging to color and the pictures take forever to finish.

Another neat feature is that under each picture there is a little snippet of history about that particular house or dress, etc.

Here are a couple pictures I colored:

And here’s one Lance did:

You can find these books on Amazon.com for about $4!!

One person’s trash…

…is my treasure!!!

So way back in the summer, as Lance and I were leaving to go somewhere, we saw a rummage sale outside at our apartment complex.  I LOVE rummage sales so I wanted to check it out.  Lance kindly obliged and I promised not to take long ’cause he’s not a fan.

So, turns out the sale was over and they were just packing everything up to get rid of it.  Anyone who wanted what was left could just take it! I found a few little plastic (sanitizable) toys for the girls I keep and a big mirror.  The mirror looked like this:

It is a really nice size but had a really ugly paint job.  It was like off-white with some pastels brushed on it.  The most prominent color was dirt.

I knew that I wanted to paint it, but haven’t really had time until last week.

Sad, I know.

So, I wanted it to be fun and give my little craft corner some personality.  And I knew it would be okay for it to be totally girly because it is my own little space.

What’s more girly than purple and zebra stripes?  Well, I’m sure a lot of you could answer that question, but I like the color combination just fine 🙂

A little closer:

Here it is hanging in my corner:

Remember when Brandy played Cinderella?  All I think of when I see this picture is her singing, “In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be…”

It’s good to have a corner.

Now if I could just live some place that I could actually paint my walls…

Enjoying being sick…

My husband and I spent the last half of this past week being sick.  We had/have/are getting over some sort of chest/nose/head crud.  Although it is obviously inconvenient being sick and having to miss work, I can only say that I am thankful for the past few days.  I have thoroughly enjoyed them!

You see, normally when Lance and I relax together, I am not really relaxing.  In my mind, I’m running through all the things I could be doing with my time (dishes, laundry, getting spider webs out of ceiling corners) and can’t really relax like Lance can.  I think it’s just a natural male/female thing.  He gets to enjoy rented movies, while I’m mostly there, but also multitasking and making mental lists.

But when I’m sick, I don’t care.  I don’t care about anything to do with my house, or errands, or bills, etc.  All I care about is what I want to make me feel better at that moment.  And since Lance caught whatever crud that I caught from the girls I keep, we pretty much wanted to do the same things all weekend.

Along with our high fevers, bad coughs, and runny noses, we spent all our time drinking juice, eating oranges, watching Lost, and playing Wii.  We had a gazillion Mario Cart races against each other, finished season five of Lost, and went through 3 boxes of tissues and 2 boxes of Sudafed.

Sometimes we get caught up with responsibilities and our recharge time is spend individually.  It was nice to be sick together and desire the same activities.  It was even fun to go to Walmart together in the middle of the night to get more medicine and snacks because we couldn’t sleep.  We both commented to each other that we enjoyed the time we were able to spend with together this weekend.

Although I don’t enjoy being sick, I do enjoy recovering with my favorite person in the whole world 🙂
