Craigslist and my new furniture!

Craigslist is one of my alltime favorite websites!  If you’re not familiar with it, it is basically a big version of your local newspaper’s classified ads.  It has sections for everything you’d ever want to sell or buy, job listings, question forums, services, and more!

My husband and I are getting ready to move into a different apartment.  We’re really excited about this because the new apartment will have much lower rent.  And a new apartment, of course, means new decorating opportunities!

When we got married two years ago, we weren’t too picky about furniture.  Both our loveseat and couch were used and were great for us newlyweds!  We’re still not that picky, but a couple months ago, both of our couches decided to break! Our loveseat sagged on one side, and our couch had springs sticking out of the top!  So, I began browsing the furniture section of Craigslist.  I found a couple decent couches, but they either were sold before I got there, or they were a little out of my price range.

Recently, I’ve been selling a lot of stuff we have around the house that we don’t need on CL.  A couple weeks ago I brought in about $110 and a week later found the perfect couch and loveseat set!

The ad had them listed for $150 for both. I e-mailed the woman and said I had $110 in cash and could pick them up the next day. She agreed! I traded stuff around the house I didn’t need for my clean, pretty, and oh-so-soft furniture! My cats like them too!

So, next time you have some books, lampshades, or dishes lying around, see if you can make something for nothing! Not only is it beneficial for you, you are giving someone else the opportunity to buy something they need at a fraction of the cost!
